African Tropical Azobe Reclaimed Grade 1 Hardwood Sleeper (Untreated)
£41.00African Tropical Azobe Reclaimed Grade A Hardwood Sleeper (Untreated)
Known also as ekki or red ironwood, Azobe comes from the rainforests of West and Central Africa. It’s an exceptionally dense hardwood, far harder wearing than the usual garden timbers you find here. Its heartwood ranges from dark reddish to purple brown, with a coarse, interlocked grain that’s both distinctive and robust.
What makes Azobe particularly interesting for garden and outdoor projects at home is how its industrial-grade strength and durability translate to domestic use. This is the timber trusted for railways and bridges—places where failure isn’t an option. For homeowners fed up with replacing rotted sleepers or crumbling edging after a couple of wet winters, Azobe hardwood sleepers present a potentially lasting solution.
Dimensions: 2600 x 240 x 150mm. Approx 55kg. (with some variation up to eight inches)
The sleeper will have bolt holes where the tracks were attached to it. It may have some damage or slight wane.
