Hobbyweld 15 (Original)

From: £65.00

Hobbyweld 15 (Original) is a MIG/MAG shielding gas for welding thicker sections of steel. It’s a tri-mix of argon, carbon dioxide and oxygen, roughly 83% argon, 15% CO2 and 2% oxygen, sometimes called an argon shield. The higher CO2 content is what makes it suited to heavier steel, generally from about 7mm up to 15mm or so.

It welds with good arc stability and minimal spatter, which is why it’s a popular choice for general fabrication, repairs and light trade work, as well as agricultural, on-site and mobile welding. This is the Original cylinder: a 9-litre bottle at 137 bar.

A cylinder of this type needs a suitable regulator to set your flow. We deliver across our defined Reading area, so check your postcode is covered, or call the yard on 0118 9242888.

Please note that if you cannot exchange an empty cylinder on a like-for-like basis then you must purchase a cylinder deposit.

Hobbyweld 15 (Original) is the shielding gas to reach for when you’re MIG or MAG welding thicker steel. It’s a specially formulated tri-mix of argon, carbon dioxide and oxygen, roughly 83% argon, 15% CO2 and 2% oxygen, often referred to as a tri-mix or argon shield. The 15% carbon dioxide content is the key: it gives the heat and penetration for heavier sections, generally from around 7mm up to 15mm or so, while the 2% oxygen helps keep the arc stable across a broad heat.

In practice that makes it a versatile, hard-working gas. The quality of weld and the low spatter suit general fabrication, repairs and light trade jobs, and it’s a common choice for agricultural, on-site and mobile welding, structural steel and medium-gauge plate.

This is the Original cylinder, which holds a 9-litre water capacity at 137 bar. A cylinder of this type is used with a suitable welding regulator to set and read your flow. If you also weld thinner sheet, Hobbyweld 5 is the lower-CO2 mix for steel under about 7mm.

We deliver across our defined postcode area around Reading. Check your postcode is covered before ordering, or call the yard on 0118 9242888 to talk through the gas, the cylinder and how to refill it.

FAQs

What’s Hobbyweld 15 used for?

It’s a MIG/MAG shielding gas for thicker steel, generally from about 7mm up to 15mm or so. The 15% CO2 tri-mix gives the heat and penetration for heavier sections, with good arc stability and low spatter. It suits general fabrication, repairs and on-site or agricultural welding.

What’s the difference between Hobbyweld 15 and 5?

Both are argon tri-mixes for MIG welding steel. Hobbyweld 15 has 15% CO2 for thicker sections, generally 7mm and up. Hobbyweld 5 has 5% CO2 for thin sheet under about 7mm, such as car bodywork. Choose by the thickness of the steel you weld.

What size is the Original cylinder?

The Original cylinder has a 9-litre water capacity at 137 bar. It’s used with a suitable welding regulator to set your flow rate. Call the yard on 0118 9242888 if you’d like help with the regulator or how to refill.
